Tri For a Cure

Last year CAB, Newbie and I formed a team for the LiveStrong Challenge in Austin, Texas.  It supports the Lance Armstrong Foundation; founded by Lance after his battle with testicular cancer.

The LAF believes that unity is strength, knowledge is power and attitude is everything. You can empower yourself and others if you have the knowledge and as your mom always said “Safety Strength in numbers”.

The Lance Armstrong Foundation became a real part of my life when BFF was diagnosed with cancer.  As we went through her battle together I learned more and more about the efforts of LAF not only in each community but over legislature and globally.  This foundation reaches globally from Mexico to Italy.

The LiveStrong Challenge is an annal event held in 4 cities across the US and over the past 13 years has raised over $60 MILLION for cancer research.  Last year we dubbed our team name “Tri For a Cure”- at that time all three of us had completed our first year of competing in triathlons and thought it was an appropriate name for our team being as though we had lost BFF the previous June.

This year and into next as I train for my first half ironman – I still consider myself Tri-ing for a Cure.  We will use this name again when we participate in the LiveStrong Challenge in October 2010.  But do you want to Tri for a Cure?

I’ll be chronicling my training on here as not only motivation (hopefully to some) but also as accountability.   If you would like to join in feel free – we can discuss those horrendous BRICK workouts, the scared feeling you get when you begin to taper (will I loose performance), the miserable early morning workouts, etc….

New Orleans 70.3 Training will start in approx. mid December 2010 – please check back for updates!
